Teen Leadership Program Committee

WGCA Teen Volunteer Leadership Program 2025 (Pilot Program)

The goals and program outline for involving high school students in the Civic Association looks comprehensive and promising. Here’s a structured approach to expand and refine your proposal based on the information provided:

Goals:

1. Engage Six High School Students: Involve them in the Civic Association, fostering leadership and mentorship.

2. Expand Membership: Extend the opportunity to students' families, enhancing community engagement.

3. Educational Exposure: Teach students about community history, future projects, and engagement strategies.

Program Components:

1. Educational Sessions:

  • Cover community history and future developments.
  • Include workshops with community leaders and government officials to build networks and provide insights.

2. Peer Engagement:

  • Organize joint activities and discussions with students from nearby high schools (Duvall, Flowers, Parkdale, Roosevelt).

3. Project Involvement:

  • Assist in planning and participating in events like fundraisers, the annual picnic, movie nights, and other community gatherings (such as an Easter egg hunt).
  • Encourage participation in ongoing community projects to apply learned skills in real scenarios.

Participation Requirements:

  • Must have parental consent.
  • Residency in Whitfield Gardens Community.
  • Enrolled as a high school student in Prince George’s County, either public or private.
  • Willingness to learn, participate actively, strategize, and communicate with community members.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to attend in-person community meetings (monthly – clarify the duration, e.g., January-June or September-December).
